Preparing the Church Budget
Based on the BCMD Creating an Effective Church Budget
Matthew 28:19-20: Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. Surely I am with you always even to the end of the age.
Purpose of Budget – Achieve our call as a church
Define those things that matter most
What has God called your church to be and to do. Know who you are
Continually assess purpose & effectiveness of each ministry
Focus on people to impact lives
Pray through the budget process
Encourage giving commitment/Emphasize faithful stewardship
The budget must be supported by the church body
Build trust with the congregation/Communicate how finances are being utilized
Prepare a clear challenging budget proposal
Preparing a budget takes time and prayer. Ask God for direction
Follow a schedule: Planning, Proposals, Compile, Present, and Approve
Involve key leaders and ministry teams
Components of a church budget:
- Missions: 10-20%
- Ministries: 10-20%
- Staff: 35-60%
- Building Operations: 20-40%
Seek balance in the budget so ministry can be achieved
1 Peter 4:10: Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.
